Global warming is a very hot topic and this page will introduce a few simple choices we can make to affect our daily lives.
Life is full of choices. Tap water or bottled. Organic or fast food. Oil or gas heat. There are so many choices to be made on a daily basis and so little time to make them. This page is intended to show consumers how to evaluate the cost of their choices. It will be updated occasionally as needed when changes occur to highlight a new topic. This month's topic is hybrid vehicles.
Every choice we make has pros and cons. This is a hypothetical one.
While searching for a new automobile we compared the cost of purchasing a hybrid against a gasoline model. Some of the factors involved in the purchasing decision are the price of the vehicle (hybrids carry a markup of 20-25% more than a traditional gas vehicle), additional sales tax associated with the premium cost of the auto, tax credit for a hybrid purchase, fuel savings, insurance, maintenance, depreciation and financing costs. After calculating the cash numbers based on the figures that we had, we had to determine the cost of driving a “green” vehicle.
This is one example of how we analyze the cost of a monetary decision (comparing apples to apples).
The same process can be used for Photovoltaic's, Wind Power, and many alternative energies.
The bottom line when considering an electrical supplement or replacement is that it is all about Kilowatt Hours.
